In just a few hours most of us will be cheerfully counting down to a new year. While there is great hope for 2019, there are still some realities we must face.
You will NOT have a Cinderella experience at the strike of midnight. Your mindset, your habits, your will, and your wounds will NOT be instantly transformed. At midnight you CAN declare victory, but at 12:01am you must make a moment by moment decision for the next 365 days to walk as a VICTOR.
The year won’t make or break you. YOU will create your own year. No matter what happens during 2019, how you DEFINE YOUR EXPERIENCES will determine whether it was a good year for you. I remember a year prior to marriage where I shed lots of tears over a boyfriend breakup and saw it as one of the worst years of my life. I now define that year as God’s Year of Grace, Love and Mercy towards me. God had a MUCH better plan for my life (called Tony), even though I couldn’t see it at the time.
One of my favorite quotes is posted on my wall: “We all must suffer one of two pains in life; the pain of discipline or the pain of regret.” Unless you have declared 2019 as “Your Year of Enduring the Pain of Disciplined Change,” then you are destined to fail.
MY ADVICE TO YOU:
Set realistic goals and count up the TRUE cost and sacrifice to make them happen!
Don’t become discouraged and throw in the towel. Get back up with all tenacity and fight aggressively after any setback.
Release any guilt and shame of mistakes and failure of the past and future. Redefine them as life lessons.
Discipline your thoughts to only allow winning thoughts into your mind’s gate.
Pause before you speak yourself out of your blessing. Ask yourself if those words are consistent with what you’re believing will happen.
Be ready for pain, obstacles and distractions to come. DO NOT PACIFY THEM not FEED INTO THEM.
REMEMBER: God will add favor to your discipline.
JAMES 2:14 (NIV) ...Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
